Because I Like It, Part II

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Here’s the follow-up to my prior post. I now offer you Cheap Trick’s “Gonna Raise Hell.” For those of you who like some angst with your rock n’ roll, check out Robin Zander’s cougar-like screams that begin at 3:31. He gives some of the best howls in the business on this one.

Because I Like It

I’m gonna indulge in some Cheap Trick posts. I’ve seen this band in concert probably over a dozen times; they’re local and do a lot of gigs in my area. I was hooked after my first show. They connect well to the audience, and Robin Zander sings with passion and emotion. No matter how many times you hear their top hits, you never get tired of them in concert because they are never played exactly the same way twice; yet they always sound excellent.

Here’s a study in contrasts. Two of my favorite Cheap Trick tunes are “Heaven Tonight” and “Gonna Raise Hell.” The first of the two is the more haunting, despite the title; there’s certainly a moral to the story.
